Grupo Suite Denounced for Serious Town Planning Irregularities

- 2005-05-26

The development and construction company Grupo Suite has been denounced by the community in Urbanización Pinares de San Antón for alleged town planning violations in the San Antón forest.

Grupo Suite are building 15 luxury apartments in the area commercially known as Hacienda de San Antón, each one valued at 1.5 million EUR. In a report against the construction of this development presented on the 30th March in the Town Planning Office of Malaga, it is shown how carrying out these works infringes the conditions stipulated by the building licence.

In the denunciation it is stated that Grupo Suite plan to construct a building that involves serious violations such as carrying out excessive ground works, and the building of installations that do not comply with either the suitability for building in the area or the building licence. The report also describes the town planning laxity of the Malaga Town Hall and the inoperative reactions on their part when infractions of this sort are reported. The Malaga Town Hall gave the go-ahead to the developer for this development at an extremely controversial plenary session. Also to be taken into account is the fact that Daniel Portero de la Torre works for Grupo Suite – he is the nephew of Mayor Francisco de la Torre, who also is in charge of dealing with the Malaga Town Hall. At the time, this circumstance was explained as a professional coincidence. Now, this professional coincidence has turned into a political and speculative issue – two weeks ago (on the 12th May) Portero de la Torre’s incorporation into the provincial executive committee of the Partido Popular in Malaga.

The complaints about Malaga Town Hall and their method of approving licences and permits have been continuous, both from the municipal opposition and the residents of the area. Likewise, their apparent complacency, in the face of all the allegations made by the community in the past few months regarding specific issues of planning permission, has also been criticised.
