Andalucian Council Orders Town Hall To Review Illegal Building Licences

Diario SUR - 2004-02-26

The Provincial Delegation for Public Works and Transport have requested that the Town Hall of Marbella review a licence to build 45 multi-family and 6 single family apartments in the Mirador de Guadalmina area, on land deemed suitable for single family homes only.

In a report, the Public Works stated that they have also urged the government to revise a licence to begin building in the Señoría de Guadalmina area, which was denounced by the ecologists, the Resident Association Federation of San Pedro and Nueva Andalucía, the Popular Party and the Development of San Pedro Association

According to the Provincial Delegation, the licence was approved by the Government Committee in June 2002 and was then contested before the courts. The Delegation also added that on July 16th 2003, the Committee granted another licence on the Town Hall´ s behalf to build 29 more apartments in the area.

With regards to the development in the Guadalmina river area, the Andalucian Council declared that the licence granted by the Government Committee on May 28th 2003 to the property development company CITINAGRO, to build 60 apartments and 20 single family semi-detached houses, is also being contested.

Furthermore, the coastal Town Planning Police travelled to the North of Alta Vista and to the Guadaiza river area, which is where those concerned have demanded that town planning legality be reinstated. The acting Mayor, Isabel García Marcos, confirmed yesterday that she was not personally dealing with these denunciations but stated that nobody has permission to build without a licence. She wanted to know in detail what procedures were being carried out to overcome this issue.
